The people behind the Signal Box
The Signal Box is much more than a café. It’s a community of people who give their time, energy and enthusiasm to make it a friendly and welcoming place for everyone.
Our small café team works alongside our brilliant volunteers and volunteer Board of Directors to keep everything running.
Julie Wood
Julie keeps everything (and everyone!) moving.
She looks after the day-to-day running of the café, supports our staff and volunteers and makes sure there’s always a warm welcome waiting for you.

O Macey
O is the person behind the food.
From breakfasts and brunches to lunches and daily specials, O keeps our kitchen busy and makes sure there’s always something tasty on the menu.

Justine Macey
Justine is one of our volunteer Board Directors and brings her HR expertise to the Signal Box. She helps us look after our staff and volunteers, supports the Board with all things people-related and makes sure we continue to be a welcoming, supportive and inclusive place to work and volunteer.
Café Assistant
Karen Parker
Karen is at the heart of the day-to-day café.
You’ll find her serving customers, making drinks, helping our volunteers and generally making sure everything runs smoothly.
Meet our volunteers
We genuinely couldn’t do it without them.
Our volunteers are a huge part of what makes the Signal Box special. They come from all walks of life and help with everything from making coffee and serving customers to clearing tables, gardening, events and keeping the café looking lovely.
Some volunteer to learn new skills or build confidence. Some want to meet people and be part of their community. Others simply enjoy lending a hand.
Whatever brings them here, they all help make the Signal Box the friendly place it is.
